SKETCH ITINERARY

An early arrival on the 11th October is suggested so that we can settle in and enjoy some rest before the safari begins on 12th October at around 11h00 in DURBAN. We can assist you with a suggested overnight B&B accommodation in Durban or Johannesburg on the night of the 11th October 2011.

12 October 2011

We make our way to Durban for the start of our Soul Safari, having been collected from our guest house in Durban or after our arrival at Durban Airport. This will ensure that we have plenty of time for our 11h00 transfer to SHAKALAND – the Greatest Zulu experience in Africa.

This traditional Zulu ‘Umuzi’ or homestead provides dwellings for its resident Zulus, as well as for us, the hotel guests. It’s a unique resort that has been used as a set for the movies, Shaka Zulu and John Ross. Our first-class accommodation in the traditional beehive huts has the usual mod-cons plus an en-suite bathroom.

After a traditional lunch in a colourfully decorated dining-room, we re-live the excitement and romance of the days of Shaka, King of the Zulus. In this intriguing and authentic re-creation of the Great Kraal, which overlooks Phobane Lake, we can begin to really connect with the pulsating rhythm and mysterious beat of magical Africa.

Whilst at this fascinating homestead, we look on as ‘warriors’ skilfully wield their ‘assegaais’, discover a few fascinating healing secrets of the Sangomas and take part in some of the most intriguing traditional customs such as tribal dancing, spear making and beer-drinking ceremonies.

Shakaland is far more than just a tourist attraction – it’s an enriching experience that affords us a far greater understanding of the Zulu nation, its people and their interesting customs.

To find out more re Shakaland please do visit www.shakaland.com.

13, 14 & 15 October 2011

Once the morning cultural program and breakfast at Shakaland are over, we travel onto Tembe Elephant Reserve, which is partly owned and run by the local Thonga people. This wonderful and successful community project provides us with the superb opportunity of connecting with some of the largest elephants in the world, along with many of the ‘Big 5’ animals of Africa, during our exhilarating game drives through this unique game reserve. At night, wild bush babies rustle and chatter in the trees, whilst we experience an even deeper cultural connection through the captivating movements and passion of the Thonga people, dressed in their Thonga (Zulu regalia of skins and furs), as they re-enact folklore stories their song and dance. What better way to learn about the African bush than to sit around a glowing campfire in the boma, under the night stars, and being part of the African heartbeat.

During our three days at Tembe Elephant Reserve we enjoy four incredible game drives, as well as all meals prepared by the local Thonga people.

For more details re Tembe Elephant Reserve please do visit http://www.tembe.co.za

16, 17, 18 & 19 October 2011

Once the final early morning game drive and breakfast have come to an end at Tembe Reserve, we travel to the border for our Holistic Dolphin experience in Mozambique. Here we relish the delights and luxury of the exquisite Tartaruga Tented Camp, situated in the extreme south of the pristine Mozambique coastline. It’s a private and exclusive tented camp that offers us comfort, privacy and tranquillity.

There’s plenty of time to appreciate the beautiful beaches, inland lakes and swamps, should we wish, since the waters are warm, all year round, due to the sub-tropical climate. It’s an absolute paradise for nature lovers who just wish to be!

Over the next 4 days, a shamanic sound journey, fire side drumming circles, interaction with the local community, a visit to the local village school, morning yoga and swims with wild dolphins, are all facilitated by Courtney Ward, who also presents a dolphin code of conduct de-briefing on the first day. These are interspersed with Universal insights and sharing with Chris Stormer-Fryer.
These gatherings, plus the three dolphin swims, along with a magnificent brunch and very tasty dinner each day are all included. For lunch, however, we buy provisions en route, which we then share amongst ourselves.

For further information on Tartaruga please visit www.tartaruga.co.za and for more details of the Holistic Dolphin experiences do go to www.halogaia.com / DOLPHIN RETREATS

20 October 2011

Following an invigorating dolphin swim and breakfast on our final day in Mozambique, we then travel back to Durban, via the magnificent iSimangaliso ‘Greater St Lucia Wetlands Park’. This beautiful space has been declared to be South Africa's first Natural World Heritage Site and is the third largest park in the country. Whilst enjoying our incredible sunset boat cruise, South Africa`s largest population of hippos, crocodiles and very rich bird life make their magnificent presence known, introducing us to some of the delights of this truly exquisite nature reserve.

To find out more please do go to www.southafrica.info/about/animals/stlucia.htm

After the boat cruise we return to Durban for a late night stop at a famous Indian restaurant for traditional take a ways, at our own expense. This is followed by a well deserved sleep, in the lap of luxury, at Goble Palms Guest Lodge, a beautiful Edwardian lodge, set up high on the ridge, in lush tropical gardens, overlooking the ocean. It offers us a charming blend of tradition, elegance and style, with comfortable accommodation.

For more information about our Bed & Breakfast experience in Durban, please visit www.goblepalms.co.za

21st October 2011

Following an early start and delicious breakfast at Goble Palms Guest Lodge, we have a day of complete bliss and pure pampering at the Mangwanani Original African Health Spa, with 6 exquisite therapeutic treatments, breakfast (if you can manage another one!) and lunch, plus all drinks.

At the end of our indulgent day we return to our beautiful rooms at the Goble Palms and enjoy a last night together. We may choose to have dinner together, or alone, at one of the many lovely restaurants in the area, which is at our own expense.

22nd October 2011

After another tasty breakfast at Goble Palms Guest Lodge, shared airport transportation is available to Durban Airport to make sure that we are in time for our flights back to Johannesburg or back Home.

Although this is the end of our amazing Safari,
we’ll always be together, no matter where in the world we are!

A single supplement is available, should you wish to have your own room, although this will depend on availability at the time of booking.

There are ONLY spaces for 16 guests (sharing) on this tour, so please book and pay your deposit ASAP.
